I just received this book from Amazon yesterday late afternoon. I’ve already finished reading it from cover to cover. And this is coming from someone who hates to read and hasn’t read a book in at least 13 years. I couldn’t put it down. This is such a phenomenal book that teaches you the math and strategy around making proper decisions at the poker table. It gives you quick and easy ways to calculate if your decisions at the table are mathematically correct and how using these formulas can help you gain a competitive advantage over your opponent. But this book goes way beyond its “Mathâ€matical title. It teaches you about reading patterns, masking your own patterns, studying your opponents, what to do with certain combinations of hands before and after the flop depending on the situation, etc. I learned so much! I’ve been playing poker for over 25 years, and I run my own 400+ member poker games in the community. But this book taught me so much. In addition to the things I learned to help me against others, I also learned a lot of things that I’m guilty of doing wrong. A must read if you’re serious about improving your game. Otherwise, be prepared to get beat by those who do read it.
I like to think I am good at poker but basically I'm probably average. What I like about this book is that it gives me some tips and tricks that I can put into practice right away -- I actually did use them in some family poker games over the holidays and they worked. I have never played tournament poker, but I can say that this book helped me get cred in the family poker games, and that I loved learning the math behind the tips. So glad I bought this book, what a gem. I love the fact that it's such an easy reader and as a poker player, the mathematical concepts are extremely simple to remember. I'll be playing some Hold'em in a few days...Can't wait to implement some of these tactics.
Although I'm not new to poker, I am new to learning playing strategies from this book. Over the years, I've found some other good books on the subject, but this one put me in the player's seat and showed me the best ways to get ahead. Much to the dismay of others in my poker group, I've become a far better player who finally knows what she's doing. It seems to me that this guy, Clayton, really knows his stuff and now I know it too!
I read the book in one night. The next night at the tournament of about 120 people I was able to implement some of the information gleaned from the book and won the tournament. $400 win a great return on investment. The book has the math of which you need to be aware. Guides to help you use the math. Easy to follow situations to illustrate the concepts.
