I grew up in a Missouri Synod Church and attended an ELC college in the 50's. My pastor did not think I should go there, as it might make me too liberal. He was right--it did. What a great read--but not for Lutherans only. I have shared it with my Catholic, Methodist, Reformed, and UCC friends. They have all loved it and recognize the time when we all attended church and it was the center of our social life. Too bad that is no longer the case. It is a good idea to explain why the authors use "How is This Done, What Does This Mean, and This is Most Certainly True" so often. I shared it with my loosley organized book club and it was a million laughs.

This is too much.If you grew up Lutheran in the '60s, this is your book.Come on...green jello served up in the church basement by ladies wearing neatly pressed aprons. Occassionally, there would even be fruit hiding in that green jello.You need this book.
What a wonderful book...whether or not you grew up Lutheran! At 82 years old, I am a "baby" Lutheran and this book is "certainly true!" I heartily recommend it.
Now this is very good. Total enjoyment. My dad, Sven Olof cooked every Christmas all the Swedish foods. He came from Sweden in 1920. I recommend this book highly. Outstanding. Will read more of these authors.
This is what I was expecting when I purchased Church Basement Ladies. amusing stories about growing up Lutheran.It is not roll on the floor funny but is very entertaining.
Even though I grew up in western Kansas, this could have been a book about my church. Even shared with my mother. Both have had many chuckles over this. Thanks to the authors for bringing back so many forgotten memories.
