Quite honestly, I have no idea what fills the 1100 pages of this book. The first and most fundamental problem is the index to the book.There really isn't one, and what there is refers you to the wrong pages, and most topics only get a paragraph of explanation. Clearly, he did not hire a professional to index the book. Every time I look something up in the index, it refers me to a page that has at most a paragraph related to the topic in question. I suppose somewhere in this massive tome there is useful information, but finding that information is nearly impossible. The second problem is that he takes the easy, shortcut route when providing the scant example code. Vast sections of code are replaced with . Well, it is the "good stuff" I'm looking for, and he has omitted what actually matters, and loaded up the existing example XALM with trivial stuff you already know. He completely omits the entire subject of "DataConext" and instead spends his time on the Background and Foregrond attributes of a XAML element. I have had several versions of this book, and they are all the same. Strangely, there is only one book in publication that tells you how WPF/XAML work and provides good solid examples of how to do it. That book is "Application = Code + Markup" by Charles Petzold, a long, long time MS designer who developed pretty much everything MS makes. He likely knows more about Window than anyone else on the planet. Really, no hyperbole. That book is in C# not VB, but it is very simple to translate the C# to VB if you have any experience at all in C#. Beyond that, there just aren't any good WPF books. If you want to really lean WPF, go to SourceForge and download projects with their source code;

This is a great book that starts at the very beginning, and treats the subject clearly and thoroughly and in enough detail for you to be able to go out there and actually do something.However, one book never covers any technology completely. The major gap in this book is that it says nothing about the MVVM pattern of databinding. After the (considerable) investment of reading this book, I really didn't know the first step to make in building a UI. The book does mention ways of getting data using either DTO classes or DataSets, but it would have been so helpful if the author had directed his readers to read up on the MVVM pattern, which I'm coming to learn is the accepted standard pattern for WPF databinding. As it was, I muddled along for a few frustrating weeks, ended up creating horrendous code-behind to populate my controls from a dataset, couldn't get things to work right, and then stumbled across MVVM as the "real" way to databind in WPF.For all other aspects of WPF the book is great.

Great book. I purchased this book twice. Once on the Kindle and the other is a real book.

I gotta say without a doubt Matthew Macdonald makes the most detailed books out there.I really liked all of the sample projects he has in all of his books.He does go into a bit too much detail though on most parts.Definitely a must have for any WPF arsenal.

It explains a lot that is hard to gather from different web sites about the information needed to understand what us going on.

I have this same book that a I bought from a different seller but this particular book is terribly made. Some of the letters are so small that you can hardly read them. The graphics that explain the God given instincts...forget it. It looks like they went to Staples and made a bunch of photo copies and basically just put together this book. It's just badly made and for that price, it's such a rip-off!I would strongly recommend to buy the same book (since it is such a good book for a person in recovery) but from a different source, like the Kelly Foundation, that is the place where Joe MqQ worked for so many years.In a nutshell, great book to read but terrible quality! Do not buy this particular book.

The author is "Joe", from "The Joe and Charlie Tapes", a popular series of lectures on the principles of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although there is nothing ground breaking or new when compared to the tapes, the information is solid and well presented. I think that getting the same information in different ways helps the information to 'sink in', and this book is a great "tool in my tool box".P.S. If you don't have "The Joe and Charlie Tapes" on your device, get it. Free and low cost apps are available; you can probably find it as a free download as well.

This is an excellent guide to working the 12 steps of Alcoholic Anonymous. The author is well known for the outstanding Big Book Studies he did along with a fellow AA member, Charlie. I give a copy of this book to all individuals I sponsor, as well as other friends in the program. When used in conjunction with the AA Big Book, it simplifies understanding of the 12 steps. The book's author is a long time member of AA and has experienced working the steps first hand. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is beginning a journey of recovery!

Good addition to the road to recovery. Goes hand in hand with the Big Book and the 12 & 12 book. Easy to read and has some good (but maybe to analytical - my opinion) work sheets. Although I did use them as a guideline for step 4 and step 5. I'd recommend it for another source of great books on recovery

This is a great companion guide to the Big Book because it uses the same expositional style as Joe and Charlie's Big Book Study workshops.Perfect for anyone who finds the A.A. Text hard to understand due to the language and style of the 1930s. Joe McQ. gets inside the Big Book and extracts deeper meaning and builds a modern set of glasses through which to see the steps and how to "work" them. I recommend this for small groups to use as a study guide. I use it with my sponsees and they all appreciate it as another valuable tool for their recovery toolbox.Dave H. 03/05/1995

This is one of the classics of 12-step literature for me. It covers the same territory as other early authors cover, but it adds a depth and practical experience I have found very useful in sponsoring others in recovery. I think that it is a must-read for all those serious about recovery, not just sobriety.

Julia Harfin is Professor and Chair of the Orthodontic Department at the School of Dentistry, Maimónides University, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr. Harfin has served as the president of various organizations: the Argentine Society of Orthodontics (1990–6), ALADO (1999–2008), the Argentine Chapter of the International College of Dentists (1997–2001), the Argentine chapter of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (1992–1993), and the International College of Dentists Section IV (2010–2). She was a member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Orthodontists from 2000 to 2010. She is an Honorary Member of the Argentine, Chilean, and Polish Orthodontic Societies and in 2010 became a member of the National Academy of Dentistry. Also in 2010 she was named Woman of the Year in Medicine and Healthcare. Dr. Harfin is the author or editor of several previous books, including Achieving Clinical Success in Lingual Orthodontics (Springer, 2014).Somchai Satravaha is Clinical Associate Professor at Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand and a Diplomate of the Thai Board of Orthodontics. She received her DDS (Hons) from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok and later earned the qualification of Zahnärztin für Kieferorthopädie (Orthodontist) from Baden-Württemberg, Germany and Dr. med. dent. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Thai Association of Orthodontists in 2013 and was a recipient of an Outstanding Alumni Award from Chulalongkorn University Dental Alumni Association in 2014. She is an honorary member of the Association of Philippine Orthodontists and current president of the Advisory Board of the Thai Association of Orthodontists.Kurt Faltin Jr. has been Full Professor in Orthodontics at the University Paulista – UNIP, São Paulo, Brazil since 1982, where he is currently Chairperson of the Department of Orthodontics. He was previously Full Professor in Orthodontics at the University of Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil (1971–86). Dr. Faltin is also an Invited Professor at the Facial Orthopedic Department at the University of Ulm in Germany. He is current President of the Brazilian Association of Orthodontics and Facial Orthopedics, and past president of ALADO and member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Orthodontists. Dr. Faltin is an Honorary Fellow of the German Association of Orthodontics (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kieferorthopädie) and of the Orthodontic Societies of Peru and Mexico. He teaches in the main orthodontic societies within and beyond Brazil and is the author of numerous scientific papers and book chapters.
