We can often learn best by learning from the stories and the mistakes of others. Joyce Roche does an admirable job of revealing how "the imposter syndrome", a feeling of not really being valuable and worthy, served to sabotage her success and her career path until she learned to change her behavior, her thinking and her perspective. Many readers who feel that they never do enough and can't enjoy their accomplishments are likely to see themselves in the pages of this book and learn what they could be doing differently to combat feeling like they don't belong in positions of power and success.

This book is well written. You feel like the author (Roche) is sitting across the table from you, sipping on coffee as she shares her experiences and others who have felt less than they should have for the roles they play in life. About ten years ago, I began hearing similar stories from other professional women who had graduate college with good grades, and were succeeding in the workplace. Like me, they felt they were imposters. That if others only knew about the little person hiding inside of their psyche, they would not be allowed to stay in these posiitons. Roche shares stories like these from her own experience and from the lives of others. This "feeling" some of us have (women and men) has a name - the imposter syndrome. She compares it to being like an empress, who has no clothes. Great read. Very helpful for those who need to overcome these false feelings of inadequacy because they aren't perfect enough, or didn't achieve high enough, etc.

OMG I loved this book. I have been talking about the impostor syndrome for years, both as someone who has felt it and as someone who coaches other people. I love how Joyce uses both men and women to discuss their feelings. I also loves how she breaks it down not just by a particular gender, race, socioeconomic class, but as something that can happen to everyone. If you know someone who is on their way up the ladder, by them this book. It is also a fairly easy, quick read. It can be read in less than a week.

I needed this book now as much as I did 20 years ago. In the later years of my career, the imposter syndrome still rears its ugly head. Reading this book affirms I am on the right path and very relevant in what my experiences can do for other women.

Awesome book. A very revealing book. It was helpful that she expressed how she navigated her world despite the odds. Well written book and interesting read.

I had never heard of the Impostor Syndrome before, but it certainly rang true with me. Not only did the good have great content, it was beautifully written. We heard Joyce's story as well as many others. This book was amazing and I'm recommending it to my friends and co-workers. Anyone who takes on great big huge jobs, but never seems to celebrate successes.

If I had read this book much earlier I would have enjoyed my success, rather than doubting it. This is one of those rare personal growth topics for which advice, rather than just aging into my own wisdom, would have made a difference.The Empress is a unique weave of a very personal memoir, insights about the insecurities that we all share, and practical advice for moving forward with confidence. I have purchased the book for my adult nieces and nephews, with the hope that they will take risks, stretch, and grow - with joy, zest and power!

Nothing new here. It did not retain my interest so I returned it.

When Dark Horse acquired the rights to translate and reprint Moebius' work for the North American market, I think we were all expecting that the classic action/adventure/sci-fi material would come first. Dark Horse threw us a curve ball, and decided to lead off with his more philosophical and introspective work-- the stream of consciousness "Inside Moebius'" series and the sci-fi ecological meditation "The World of Edena". It's been strong, inspired work, but probably something of a shock for fans that want to see Arzach fly around on a dinosaur thing."The Art of Edena" is very much a companion to the "World of Edena" collection. There isn't much here but a few short stories and concept art that compliment the Edena series without really adding much to it. That said, I can't say that it's inessential because it's Moebius, one of the few figures in comics that deserves to have every panel scrutinized. If you liked the initial Dark Horse "Edena" volume, you'll probably enjoy this-- it dives a bit into Moebius' thought process as the series evolved. If you haven't read the initial "Edena" volume, you'll need to do so to really grasp what the supplimental material in "Art of Edena" means. (If you--gasp-- didn't like "World of Edena", then you'll have no interest in this volume, and I suspect that you have no soul.)

Way back in 1987, Marvel Comics released Jean Giraud’s “Once Upon a Star” through their Epic imprint and I immediately fell in love with the dreamlike style of Mobius. What I failed to realize was that I didn’t get the complete story because it was released in later volumes of the series which I didn’t get. Last year, I got the completion of the story in “The World of Edena”, released by Dark Horse and discovered that I liked the parts I read, better than the parts I hadn’t. Now, Dark Horse has release “The Art of Edena” as a companion book but there is a lot more here than just Edena related art.There is a whole lot of stuff in this book besides artwork and a story recap of Edena. There is an 8-page story called The Repairman. We also get a 4-page story called “Seeing Naples” which I had already read when Epic reprinted it and loved it from the moment I saw it. Along with “Seeing Naples” we get “Dying to See Naples” which is much longer at 15 pages but for me a lot less impactful. One thing to note is that “Seeing Naples” is unique in that it is the only short story in this book with dialogue. The 24-page “Montrouge Mystery” and the 23-page “Journey” aren’t really stories but are more a series of images with a loose theme. They feature a lot of 2-page spreads and are quite lovely. We also get the 23-page “Planet Once More” as well as 5 pages of stills from a CGI film made based on the short wordless story.I love the art of Jean Giraud but I do prefer when it is accompanied by an actual story. He has a very dream like feel to his art and writing but I find all these dialogue free stories somewhat forgettable. Other people may allow themselves to get lost in the artwork and obviously there are tons of art books that have not even a semblance of a story. I also own Inside Moebius which is the first of five books but I think for now I’m kind of Moebius’d out. There are a lot of other great stories by Giraud that deserve to be reprinted and I’ll probably wait for those rather than get more of the extraneous material.

This is a must have if you're a Moebius fan...I have several of his books and The Art of Edena is a great addition to my collection. Even if you're a Miyazaki fan, you will also enjoy Moebius art. Highly recommend this book and get this before the prices goes up.

Absolutely beautiful reproductions of Moebius' work. You really get a sense of his economy of line, but stunning attention to detail. The color gradiations are a revelation! This is the kind of book you have to have in your hands to truly appreciate.

Thin on substance but Moebius art work makes up for this.

Cannot deny that Moebius is and perhaps still the greatest artist and illustrator of all time.

Was given a copy of "The Troubleshooter" , another Hopalong Cassidy novel and was surprised the character was more "western" than the William Boyd films. Well written of course by L'Amour but added is the interesting account by his son of how the four "Hopalong" novels came to be written under the pen name of Tex Burns. Upon enjoying this novel I hoped to find the other three, and did so at Amazon and read them with equal enjoyment. If you want a sample collection of Lois L'Amour these books are a good place to start.

I've never read any of Mulford's original Hopalong books, so I can't compare the two, but I thoroughly enjoy L'Amour's version. According to the afterword by L'Amour's son, Louis refused to take credit for the 4 Hopalong books he wrote in the early '50s because the publisher wanted the version of the character that Louis wrote rather than the harder and not as likeable original Mulford character that Louis wanted to write. I can understand this, an artist wanting to stay true to his vision and whatnot, but I think he did a wonderful job and was true to the more loveable character that by that time had made it to the big screen and TV and was loved by millions of kids and adults across the country. L'Amour's Hopalong Cassidy also fits the style of some of his own heoric characters in his later books published under his own name, so it was obviously and easy character for Louis to write even if it wasn't the one he wanted to write. The four Hopalong books by L'Amour, The Rustlers of West Fork, Trail to Seven Pines, The Riders of High Rock, and Trouble Shooter are a must for any L'Amour fan and should be included in a collection of the original Mulford books if for no other reason than because they continued the series and apparently reflected a newer gentler Cassidy.

They don't write them like they used to. And that is a shame. The inclusion of Hopalong Cassidy was great. Exciting and realistic story.

GLamour had good knowledge of the old west along with words to describe . Once you start reading you you can't put it down until it is finished.

Louis L'Amour's books are always so well written and very informative about the wild west. I have read many of his books and have always enjoyed them thoroughly

Good story

I loved this story of Hopalong. I grew up with him on TV and so I love reading as a books really gets your mind in the mode to view the story as Louis tells it. Of course, Hopalong's character is a little different from TV versions!
